He fuses classic Irish ingredients with exciting new flavours. Meet the Knorr chef who puts a twist on the tried and tested.
John Doyle is a proud Irishman – and growing up under his grandmother’s guidance he developed an appetite for fresh, simple, seasonal dishes. He still draws inspiration from those early days now, fusing exciting new flavours with classic Irish ingredients like root vegetables, lamb and, of course, Guinness®. It’s this culinary invention, along with a passion for great flavour that made him the perfect man to create our flavourful range of soups and sauces.

Who inspired you growing up?
I spent a lot of time in the kitchen with my grandmother. She was very much a traditionalist and it didn’t take me long to fall in love not only with cooking, but with the Irish produce at my disposal.
What’s your favourite dish to cook at home?
When it comes to cooking at home, my all-time favourite dish is as simple to choose as it is to cook. It’s my seafood chowder – a great example of how I fuse classic Irish ingredients with exciting new flavours. All I do is fry fresh, shucked oysters in delicious black pudding and serve them with a pint of Guinness®– simply delicious.
Any top tips?
My single most important tip is to plan your meals a week ahead. It means you’ll only buy what you need, so you can avoid wasting food and money.
