This recipe is very simple and very traditional in terms of British cuisine. Using the barbecue to allow the apples to caramelise in their own sugar couldn't be easier.

  • Preparation Time10 min
  • Cooking Time15 min

Ingredients

  • 2 Knorr Chicken or Ham Stock Cubes
  • 2tbsps olive oil
  • 6 pork chops
  • 6 Coxs apples
  • Fresh sage
  • Rock salt

Method

  • Place the Knorr Chicken or Ham Stock Cubes and olive oil in a bowl and mix to a paste. This is the seasoning paste.
  • Take the pork chops and remove the fat because there is no way it’ll cook in the time it takes to cook the meat.
  • Rub the paste into each of the chops. The seasoning will slowly penetrate through the meat.
  • Chop each of the apples into 4 thick rounds, but no need to peel or core. Just eat around it.
  • Place a little oil on a baking sheet and place the apples on it to slowly caramelise on the grill. Add some fresh sage leaves, as much as you like.
  • Add the chops to the grill for about 5–6 minutes (depending on thickness).
  • Turn the apples and sage over regularly, check the meat as well and turn over once. By the time the pork is cooked, the apple is cooked.
  • Remove the sage from the apple. Serve the pork with the apple, garnish with some of the sage and drizzle with a little olive oil and rock salt for a Mediterranean touch.
  • This is the perfect recipe to use up any apples that have gone a bit wrinkly or bruised – simply peel them and cut out the bruise. For lots more hints and tips to help you make the most of your food, visit www.lovefoodhatewaste.com
